THE MASK
Thursday, 25 June 2009 19:44

Today I saw a lady with a mask at the gas station. What kind of mask was it? I wondered.

An "I have Swine flu" mask?

A "don't let me get sick from you" mask? I guess the options are endless..."I've just been spray painting even though I am over 70 years old and I didn't want to breathe it in" mask.

or just a general "I don't like the smell out here" mask?

Ooh! Maybe she works at the hospital and it was an "I'm a doctor" mask.

"talent"
Wednesday, 24 June 2009 18:56

I have probably done this more times than I can count. Never this publically, though. If you've ever tried to show off and got burned, you can relate to this. It happened last night on the show America's Got Talent.

Are we too busy to "BE"?
Wednesday, 17 June 2009 19:04

Last night we were reading about when John the Baptist was beheaded. When Jesus heard, he was obviously sad, being 100% man and 100% God. He went off by himself but a crowd of people caught up with him. They heard about all that he had done (miracles) and wanted Jesus to heal the sick they had brought with them.

So instead of taking time out for Himself, Jesus had compassion on them and healed their sick.

I thought, what if a best friend was killed and we found out through facebook or email and it was too late to attend the funeral and we just needed some space to deal with it? But a family member gets a flat and they NEED you or the kids need to be fed and you're IT. How many of us would be able to set asside our own need (for mourning) and tend to others who really needed us?

When I say I follow Jesus, I mean I WANT to follow Him. To be more like Him. Diving into this passage last night made me realize I still have a long way to go. But I hope to get closer every day.

Going to Africa next month!
Friday, 12 June 2009 20:05

For the last eight years I had sponsored a child in Senegal, Africa through World Vision.  His name in Ibrahima. Because his community is Muslim, I was excited to be able to show him Jesus through our notes that we'd send back and forth. This was not something I was able to do overtly because they community is "closed" to Christianity. Like St. Francis of Assisi said, "speak the Gospel wherever you go and use words if necessary".

So on July 5th a small team of us will leave for Senegal to meet these children in the community and share some love.

I look forward to coming home full of stories to share with you and encourage you to help these children and their families to have a healthier life and show them the love of Jesus.

If you're interested in sending things like flip flops, frisbees, t shirts,  pen, pencils etc. Please send me an email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I hope to be able to take a whole suitcase full of goodies for the kids to keep!

Get Me Out of Here
Tuesday, 09 June 2009 20:53

Yes. I watched it. Twice. I don't know why. There is a long list of things I don't get about the show. Like Sanjaya is a celebrity? Why does Heidi carry her hairspray everywhere (even in the ambulance)? But most of all how the show turned into "the lost and the saved in the jungle".

Spencer Pratt gets baptized on "I'm a Celebrity-Get Me Out of Here!"

Getting Your License?
Monday, 01 June 2009 19:08

Getting your license this summer? After you study the handbook you'll have to know about these new rules: NO smiling, NO wearing glasses, NO wearing a hat or head scarf, NO hair hanging down on your face.

The government says any of those things could interfere with its software’s ability to match your face with others in its databases. Match your face, you ask? Yep. The system will automatically scan your mug and check it against more than 6 million others to make sure you’re really who you say. And, apparently, this high-tech creation can’t function if you’re flashing your pearly whites.

Luckily, there’s very little to smile about in a Motor Vehicle Bureau, so they suspect the adjustment won’t be too tough to make.

Face Paint Recall
Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:52

WASHINGTON – The FDA on Tuesday warned consumers to stop using face paints commonly dabbed on children's cheeks at parties, sporting events and other festivities and sold in retail stores.

The six face-paint products are being recalled after reports of rashes and skin irritation, according to the Food and Drug Administration. FDA spokeswoman Susan Cruzan said the products were found to have yeast and mold counts above industry guidelines.

The FDA said it learned of children suffering rashes, itchiness, burning sensations and swelling where the face paints were applied.

Fun Express Inc., which recalled the products, said in a statement that it sold the affected items to 130 customers and 95 percent of these sales were before January. "The recall action is being taken as a precautionary measure to ensure there are no other occurrences," the company said in a statement.

Fun Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Trading Co., the distributor of the product. The face paints were made in China by Shanghai Color Art Stationery Company Ltd.

A sales manager for the company, Jiang Chao, said he was unaware of the recall but would look into the situation.

"We've been exporting our face paint to America for over three years and never had a recall," Jiang said.

Chinese regulators have repeatedly pledged to tighten enforcement of safety and quality standards following a slew of complaints about shoddy or dangerous products. Shanghai's own food and drug administration had no immediate comment about the recall.

Any reactions should be reported to the Food and Drug Administration's MedWatch adverse event reporting program at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch.

The recall includes face paint in these colors with the following codes:

• Blue: item No. 85/2077; UPC 8 8760048110 7.

• Purple: item No. 85/2078; UPC 8 8760048112 1.

• Red: item No. 85/2079; UPC 8 8760048114 5.

• Orange: item No. 85/2080; UPC 8 8760048116 9.

• Black: item No. 85/2081; UPC 8 8760048118 3.

• Green: item No. 85/2082; UPC 8 8760048120 6.
