My Car Smells Like a Thrift Store
Monday, 14 September 2009 13:52

I complained about this most of the weekend. Saturday morning we met up with some friends who had tons of clothes and furniture in some storage units. So we started organizing it with the purpose of taking some of the clothes and food items to families in need.

It still smells.  But this morning when I got in it the smell reminded me of Ray Ray.  He recieved a brand new pair of shoes from the boxes of clothing we brought out. They were JUST his size.  He took off his ragged shoes, sat on the tailgate of a truck and put the shoes on. Then he stood up in them and he cried. He cried out loud, thanking God and asking for his blessings on us for bringing him some new shoes.

A young boy got a pair of shoes too and he was so eager to show me how fast he could run now!

Two teenaged girls told us about how well they were doing in school. How they recently got A's in class. In spite of being homeless and living in a tent community they are focused. That in itself is ann incredible feat!

Today I thank God that my car smells like a thrift store. It's a beautiful reminder of our friends from yesterday and the joy they have!!

Cold yet?
Friday, 11 September 2009 15:57

No matter where you live in the U.S. it occasionally gets cold- yes, even in Texas and Florida! There are so many more homeless families than there were last year and soon they will be in a real struggle to keep warm. Imagine even spending the night in 45 degrees. MISERABLE! add to that rain and wind. Or how about BELOW zero in nothing but a pair of jeans and a tattered t shirt. That's reality for the homeless.

YOU can help by collecting coats and blankets and bringing them to a homeless shelter or ministry in your community that can hand them out as needed.

These are my friends.

Please feel free to send me a picture of the collected blankets and coats, or YOUR friends that you've put them on.

The Chupacabra!
Thursday, 03 September 2009 15:58

Growing up in Texas we were very aware of the rumors about the Chupacabra.  It was said to terrify animals and suck their blood. Today, CNN says it's been caught! I guess they think there's only one.
